Kaos Pilots (Kaospiloterne)

Years ago, our eldest son apllied for a programme of the Kaos Pilots, an alternarive business school founded in Denmark. He would be part of a team that would join local counterparts in Durban, South Africa, to build up a company there. What kind of company was up to the team. Success under these demanding conditions would prove that they were real entrepreneurs. Unfortunately, there were not enough application that year, and the programme was cancelled.

The Kaos Pilots is (or was at that time) a school with a 3-year programme that attracts the creative outsider. Its mission is simple: to be the best school for the world. Not of the world, but FOR the world. The school focuses on creativity, personal development, adapting to new situations that emerge suddenly, co-operating with loose networks and providing all basic skills needed to start up innovative businesses with a social agenda. Among its students, the educational program values and stimulates both strong feelings and clear minds.

The school is action-oriented. Assignments and projects are defined by real clients. Being dropped with a whole team in an unfamiliar foreign country is one of the ways students are trained in resourcefulness. Famous Dutch companies like Tuborg, Carlsberg, Lego and SAS have offered paid training grounds for its students.

The KaosPiots Netherlands started in 2007 as the school’s first real step outside Scandinavia, it faltered – and restarted as the Knowmads (http://www.knowmads.nl/). There is a lot that can be learned from their approach, – zie https://www.kaospilot.dk/the-art-and-craft-of-facilitating-learning-spaces-netherlands/.
