The world’s protein production and consumption need a drastic shift from animal based protein to plant based protein – for at least three reasons:
- Environment: The world’s present livestock is responsible for a large share of greenhouse gases, which has to be reduced significantly.
- Nutrition: Food security for a fast growing world population can only be secured if the conversion rate of harvests into humen food can be improved.
- Health: The present share of animal protein (meat, milk, cheese) in the diet of Western societies is not healthy.
The Mushcof project is a concrete contribution to the protein transition.
Triple L will on the one hand contribute to the protein transition through supporting similar projects and by publishing on the work of pioneers and protagonists of the protein transition. It also plans research on the international political implications of such a shift with regard to changing trade and investment patterns, food security, and conflict potentials in different world regions.
